THE OLD GUARD | Review

The latest Netflix Original movie “The Old Guard” which got released on July 10, 2020 on Netflix was the top streamed movie on the platform in the first week of its release. This movie was adapted from the comic THE OLD GUARD written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernandez into a film. The main highlight in the movie is also from the comic book which is the ‘homosexual’ romance between Joe and Nicky.

This movie stars Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chimetal Ejiofor, Harry Melling and Van Veronica Ngo.

This movie received great response from the general public, critics, with praise for the performance of action sequences by Theron. The movie tells about the *spoiler alert* IMMORTAL mercenaries on a revenge mission.

Andromache ‘Andy’ of Scythia (Charlize Theron), Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), Joe ( Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Luca Marnelli) are centuries old warriors with regenerative healing abilities who use their vast experience to help people. Former CIA operative Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) hires them to rescue a group of kidnapped children in South Sudan. However they are attacked by a squad of highly trained mercenaries sent by Copley in order to kill them and they heal automatically and killed the attackers.

In Afghanistan, U.S. Marine Nile Freeman (Kiki Layne) has her throat slit while taking down a military target and only to recover without a scratch which was all seen by the immortals as a dream and Andy went to rescue her before the military personnel take her to Germany for testing.

Copley shows the video of immortals to a Pharmateutical Executive Merrick (Harry Melling), who orders his men to capture them. Andy takes Nile to France to meet the others and was told about the former comrade Quynh (Van Veronica Ngo), who was cast into the sea in an iron maiden, which had been drowning ever since. The group also reveals het they are not truly immortal, their healing power will soon stop which happened to the first immortal Lykon.

The team are attacked by Merrick’s men and Joe and Nicky are taken away leaving Booker injured. Knowing this, Andy kills the assailants but discovers that she has her healing powers. Booker and Andy locate Copley and Nile leaves to reunite with her family. They confront him but finding Booker betrayed her by wounding her and arguing her about finding a way to end their immortality. As they are captured, Booker finds Andy not healing.

Copley has a change of heart when he sees Merrick torturing them instead of studying them. Nile realizing about the betrayal arrives too late and asks Copley to assist her and they take off to the London office. After the rest of the immortals are freed by Nile, they fight their way back through the rest of Merrick’s security ultimately killing Merrick.

As punishment for his betrayal, the group forbids Booker from contacting them for 100 yrs. The rest of the group meet Copley revealing how their past missions were and renewed their faith in their mission, the group tasks Copley to keep their identities secret.

Six months later in Paris a drunken Booker finds Quynh in his apartment.

Hospital Playlist | Review | SpillBoard

Korean dramas currently are at the apex of their industry. Encroaching upon new grounds, these captivating series have made its way to the U.S., mostly through Netflix. I personally love numerous Korean dramas on Netflix as well; from the recent “Crash Landing on You” to “Love Alarm” back in 2017, I’ve watched a handful of dramas to call myself a fan. Recently, I’ve been watching one that took a quite different approach to its story plot: “Hospital Playlist.” Released in March 2020, “Hospital Playlist” made its way to being one of the most-watched Korean dramas in South Korea. Just in the first episode, we are introduced to five friends who knew each other since the start of medical school. As a Korean medical school consists of 6-years, including college and medical school, they practically have known each other for almost 20-years. Kim Joon-Wan (played by Jung Kyoung-Ho), a cardiothoracic surgeon, is caring to the patients and his friends while insensitive to the residents...

LOOTCASE | Review

A bag full of money seems to be the end of all troubles. Right!? Well, that isn’t the case for Nandan Kumar (Kunal Khemu) of Disney+ Hotstar’s new release, LOOTCASE . When Nandan stumbles upon a bag full of Rs 10 Crores in the middle of the night, his sanskaar tells him to return the bag to its original owner. So, he (in a hushed tone) says, “ Last time puchh raha hoon, kiska bag hai? ” Since nobody can hear him, he has no option but to take the bag home and spend all the money in it. Oh! What a task! But what seemed to be the end of all his struggles actually ends up becoming one. His beloved bag, that he names ‘ Anand Petikar’ (or Joy Bagman) isn’t really easy to hide. Spending the entire amount together is not really an easy task. He dreams of buying a luxurious flat, but then nobody really takes ₹4 Crores in cash. So, Nandan decides to take out small portions of the money, wraps it and hides it safely in various corners of his home. But for a man living in a chawl in Mumbai, find...
